Juice Cleanse Recipes

Let’s look at a few juice cleanse recipes. I’m about to embark on a 48 hour juice cleanse or you could call it a juice fast (feast). This is a ritual of mine that I started performing regularly a few years ago. Actually my first juice cleanse was many years ago and I tried it with store bought juice. Yuck!

After the holidays is a great time to cleanse. I’ve found all of that holiday food just doesn’t digest well and it still may be lingering in my colon. Who knows what’s in there  😕

juice cleanse recipes juicingforlifeIf you read my last article (Hiatus From Blogging But Not Juicing) you may remember I was targeting constipation, headache and motion sickness. Here are some great recipes from the book  Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing specifically for those areas.

There you have some great recipes. According to the book we should be seeding the apples. However, I don’t believe it makes much difference. You could though, because it will only take a second or two if you’re using something like the Omega J8004 Juicer.

Next up, The 48 Hour Juice Cleanse. I can’t wait to write.

Thanks for visiting Prime Juicers and remember, “There’s no-thing better for your body than fresh fruit and vegetable juice!”

Rich"s Go Green Smoothie

This is a simple green smoothie. I make this or something similar when I’m in a rush. Rich’s Go Green Smoothie. It’s healthy, easy and quick to make.

Why Go Green? Maca, maca gives it the blast as in nutriblast.

My Go Green Smoothie is so easy to make in the Nutribullet. I just love my Nutribullet Pro!, but if you don’t have one you can use a blender.rich

This recipe has just a few ingredients. My main ingredient is kale (organic). Kale rich in vitamin B6, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, manganese and copper to list a few. To boost things I add some maca and some ground flax seed.

First a couple of things. My shortcuts. 1. I use frozen fruit. Organic when I can find it. Yeah when I’m in a hurry I’ll use frozen 😉 2. Juice from a bottle. I buy the best I can find. Organic when I can find it. No preservatives and no sweeteners.

Rich’s Go Green Smoothie

richIngredients:

  • Kale – Buy organic. Fill the Nutribullet Pro cup to about 3/4.

  • Frozen fruit – 1/2 cup or one small hand full.

  • Maca – 1 tsp. No more than that because it will ruin the taste.

  • Ground flax seed – 1 Tbsp

  • Juice – Cranberry, 1 cup

  • Water – Fill to max line on the cup.

Extract for approximately 40 seconds or until smooth and enjoy.

If you’re looking for an energy boost, you’ll like this recipe. Maca powder is derived from a root that grows in the high altitudes of the Peruvian Andes and is known to be “Nature’s Viagra,” as well as a natural energy booster.

Rich’s Go Green Smoothie is especially good for women too because it includes cranberry juice and maca.

For women, maca decreases menopause symptoms, increases bone density and more.

Cranberry juice provides a number of important health benefits — especially for women. Cranberry juice is good for the prevention of urinary track infections, reduces the risk of breast cancer, enhances heart health and more. See the sources below.

You can find two of my main ingredients at a very good price on Amazon, maca and ground flax seed. You can also get a Nutribullet Pro there too. It’s the best price around that I can find. But of course I live in South Dakota 🙂

Try Rich’s Go Green Smoothie. Is this recipe for you? Let me know by commenting below.

Cantaloupe, Carrot, Nectarine Fruit Juice Recipe

My cantaloupe, carrot, nectarine fruit juice recipe originally came from the Beta Blast recipe in The Juicing Bible on page 164. The Beta Blast calls for apricots, but I couldn’t find fresh apricots anywhere. So, I made due with what  I had available and chose to substitute nectarine’s. It turned out great and if you like cantaloupe, you’re going to love this Cantaloupe, Carrot, Nectarine juice recipe.

As you’re juicing be sure to alternate between the soft fruits and the carrot. The carrot is hard and will help push the cantaloupe and nectarine through your juicer. I use an Omega J8004 Nutrition Center.

Cantaloupe, Carrot, Nectarine

Cantaloupe, Carrot, Nectarine Fruit Juice – Beta Blast

I was curious why it is called the Beta Blast in the book, so I looked up some info on the ingredients and here’s what I found:

Researchers have recently measured the carotenoid contents of six different California-grown cantaloupe hybrids and discovered that their beta-carotene content can reach levels as high as 3,138 micrograms (per 100 grams of fresh weight). That’s about 30 times higher than the beta-carotene content of fresh oranges. – WHFoods

Now that level of beta-carotene doesn’t match up to the amount in carrots, but our recipe also has carrots! What about my substitute, the nectarine?

Juicy nectarines have delicious flavor and sweet cream-yellow or white flesh. Fruits and vegetables with a bright red, orange and yellow color often have a high amount of beta carotene. Did you know that? It’s the truth.

So there you go. All of the ingredients in this wonderful recipe have a good amount of beta carotene and if you’re lucky enough to find apricots, then you’ll have the exact “Beta Blast” recipe as in The Juicing Bible.

This is a delicious and healthy fruit juice recipe. I love the flavor, color and texture. Try this, you won’t be sorry!

Cantaloupe, Carrot, Nectarine

Serves 2 people

  • 6 carrots

  • 4 fresh nectarines, pitted ( the Beta Blast recipe called for apricots)

  • 1/2 small cantaloupe ( I decided to peel mine, but left in the seeds)

cantaloupe, carrot and nectarine

Rocket Fuel | Carrots, Parsley, Apple Juice Recipe

Rocket Fuel, my go to favorite. I know there are a few juice recipes named Rocket Fuel, but here’s my simple and easy to make morning juice that I love because it gives me so much energy.

This Rocket Fuel juice recipe first came to me by the free juice recipe software that I use. I’ve made a couple of small modifications though. I added an apple and the quantity of carrots is also different. I want my recipes to produce enough juice for two people. Virginia (Health Juice Fanatic ‏@healthyjuicers) loves this recipe too.

rocket fuelRocket Fuel by Rich

I think just about everyone I talk to about juicing loves carrots. I get asked the question about whether or not to juice the greens, and juicing the greens is fine with fresh carrots. However, when I get store (grocery) bought carrots that come in a bag, I cut the big ends off. I don’t know exactly why, but the end of those carrots just don’t look appealing to me.

Of course whether or not you juice the carrot greens is left entirely up to you. Experiment and find what works best for your taste buds!

Makes 20 ounces

  • 2 lbs. of fresh carrots

  • 1 handful of parsley

  • 1 red apple

rocket fuel

The flavonoids in parsley—especially luteolin—have been shown to function as antioxidants that combine with highly reactive oxygen-containing molecules (called oxygen radicals) and help prevent oxygen-based damage to cells. In addition, extracts from parsley have been used in animal studies to help increase the antioxidant capacity of the blood. – whfoods.com

Water Cooler | Watermelon and Grapefruit Juice Recipe

Man do I love grapefruit in my juices like the Water Cooler juice recipe, but I just don’t like peeling them. The best way I’ve found to peel grapefruit is to use my hand peeler. It’s like this one – OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler.

This beautiful, sweet, but tart juice recipe comes from one of my favorite books, The Big Book of Juices. I made this one in the mornings for Virginia and she used to say, “Ewwweee! You’re juicing the rind on the watermelon?” And of course I said, “Yes, I’ve always done it that way, because the rind helps to push the watermelon through the juicer.” Maybe this juice would be better without the rind for you. I think it’s a matter of personal preference, so try it without the rind if you’re thinking, Ewwweee!

water coolerWater Cooler

The trick to this one is getting the thick slice of watermelon right. Personally I like this one a little more tart, so I use a smaller slice and I juice the rind. Try it and taste as you go along to get it right for yourself. It’s a real energy booster and 4 out of 5 stars for immunity in the book,  The Big Book of Juices.

Makes approximately 32 ounces (depending on how big your watermelon slice is)

  • 2 grapefruits

  • 1 thick slice of watermelon

Watermelon health benefits: Watermelons are mostly water — about 92 percent — but this refreshing fruit is soaked with nutrients. Each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There’s even a modest amount of potassium. – Livescience.com

Thank you again for reading and please let me know what you think of this recipe by commenting below. I try to keep the recipes simple.

Note: If you’re taking medication consult your health care professional. It’s been known for some time that grapefruit juice can interact badly with some medications.

5This book has EVERYTHING!

By EMA

This is a great book. It is much more in-depth than your average juicing book. It’s separated into quite a few sections, ranging from simple juices to recipes for using the leftover pulp.

It starts off with a mini-encyclopedia listing herbs, fruits and veggies which can be used in your juicing. Offered is a quick summary of each item, how to use it in juicing, and health benefits of each (good for digestion, cooling, antispasmodic, etc.). Then, there’s a section on common health illnesses which lists juices (and other juice-type items, all of which have recipes in the book) that may help the ailments, as well as dietary tips, foods and herbs that may help the disorder, and some lifestyle changes to try.

The rest of the book has the following sections:

1. Fruit Juices

2. Vegetable Juices

3. Cocktails — these are juices with a little something extra, like yogurt, milks, spices, etc.

4. Frozen treats — most of these recipes utilize leftover pulp from juices

5. Roughies — these are actual food recipes, using the juicing pulp from other recipes

6. Smoothies — uses juices and frozen fruit

7. Digestive Aids and Cleansers — the title section speaks for itself

8. Milk substitutes — recipes for nut milks, apricot milk, fig milk, etc.

9. Coffee substitutes

10. Teas and Tonics — these recipes are mostly for medicinal teas which are geared towards alleviating body ailments and/or aiding and encouraging natural bodily functions and processes.

For those of you looking for a straight forward book that just offers simple, basic juicing recipes, this is not for you; all of the extras will definitely turn you off. But for those of you looking for something that goes beyond your standard carrot-apple combination, this is sure to please. This book really goes above and beyond your typical juicing guide, with options for those that want to add a little more to their juices and really utilize every part of produce used.

Metabolic Cooking Smoothies

What are Metabolic Cooking Smoothies? I love smoothies, and who doesn’t. If you don’t like smoothies, you’re in the wrong place.

As you know, I’ve been reviewing the Metabolic Cooking program. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants  to eat healthier, look better, feel better and/or lose weight. One part that you’ll receive from the Metabolic Cooking program is “53 Fat Burning Smoothies and Milkshakes.” This is the part I love.

metabolic cooking 250fattorching metabolic cooking smoothiesOf course I can’t review all of the cooking recipes or smoothie recipes because that wouldn’t be fair to the authors, but I think it’s okay to share something about it. After all this is a review!

One of the main concepts of Metabolic Cooking is eating a diet higher in protein. Protein provides the building blocks for the body to build muscle. Protein also requires more energy from the body to digest, thus increasing your metabolism.

High Quality Protein= Muscle and increased metabolic rate.

Metabolic Cooking Smoothies

Metabolic Cooking smoothies are high in protein. Once you sign up for the Metabolic Cooking program you’ll be introduced to Biotrust a low carb, protein supplement. This is an excellent choice. You can use others, but be sure to read the ingredients. Look for a protein supplement with all natural ingredients and no artificial colors or sweeteners. Also check the sugar content. Low sugar is very important to me. I don’t want to add a lot of sugar to my smoothies. See the link below for other protein powder suggestions.

To make these high protein smoothies you’ll not only need a protein supplement, but you’ll also need a blender or my personal choice, a  NutriBullet Pro. It’s so easy to use and cleans up quick!

Remember, simple recipes, that’s what I like. So next week I’m going to review a simple high protein smoothie recipe from Metabolic Cooking.

For more information on the Metabolic Cooking Craze see my review here. Thanks again for reading and please comment below. Have you used a protein supplement in your smoothies?

Kale Cucumber Apple Juice | Simple Recipes

kale cucumber apple juiceThis Kale Cucumber Apple Juice recipe is very delicious. The cucumber cuts the strong flavor of the kale and the apple sweetens it just a little.

I was pleasantly surprised when I made this recipe this morning.

Kale is a superfood. I can’t say enough about it. I never liked kale before I started juicing so this is a big plus for me.

Cucumber is a good source of B vitamins and rehydrates the body. I hear cucumber is good for hangovers. If that’s the case this should be an excellent hangover cure.

Kale Cucumber Apple Juice – My Simple Recipes

Makes 20 ounces

  • 3 kale leaves

  • 1 large cucumber (I peel mine, unless organic)

  • 1 apple (red delicious)

kale cucumber apple juice

Selecting Kale for Juicing

  • To enjoy the health benefits of kale you should look for kale with firm, deeply colored leaves and moist and firm stems.

  • When you shop for kale it should be displayed in a refrigerated environment because warm temperatures will cause it to wilt. This will negatively affect its flavor.

  • Never pick leaves that look wilted for your juicing recipes. The kale leaves should not show any signs of browning nor have small holes.

  • The kale with smaller-sized leaves usually is more tender and have slightly better flavor than those with larger leaves.

  • To store, place kale in a plastic storage bag removing as much of the air from the bag as possible.

  • You can store it in the refrigerator for for up to 5 days.

  • When you are juicing kale leaves you should however note that the longer the leaves are stored, the more bitter it will taste when you juice it.

  • Always shop for kale that has been grown organically.

  • Rinse kale leaves under cold running water. – Juicing Benefits Toolbox

Apple Peach Fruit Juice | Simple Recipes

Do you like peaches? I discovered this simple apple peach fruit juice by mistake. I bought a box of these huge peaches at the supermarket not really knowing what to do with them.

I thought I can always juice’em if I can’t eat them 🙂

To my surprise they were easy to juice in my Omega J8004 juicer. I had to follow the peach with some apple to help push the peach through, but overall I got about 16 ounces of juice from this one peach and two small apples.

Juicing vs. Blending: What"s the Difference?

I’ve been juicing for a number of years and really enjoy it. The process of juicing as well as the health benefits are wonderful. I enjoy growing and picking my own vegetables for juicing. I feel healthier because of juicing and not only that, it tastes great! Juicing vs. Blending: What’s the difference?

Juicing vs. Blending

The last month or so I have been blending and more recently I started using a new machine, the NutriBullet. This is not juicing, it is blending. There is a difference. Juicing extracts the pulp and blending pulverizes it. I like the results of using the Nutribullet. It’s easy to use, easy to clean up, delicious and healthy. So what are the differences between juicing and blending? Which is better?

juicing vs. blending

To the left is the Magic Bullet Nutribullet Pro 900. It’s more powerful than the old original NutriBullet. It has a 900 watt motor and 2 extractor blades so extracting your food is now even easier. The NutriBullet Pro opens seeds, cracks through stems, shreds tough skins and accesses hidden nutrients in food. It breaks down food to its most digestible state. It claims to drastically improve your health and energy levels.

Juicing

When juicing, the juicer extracts the juice, leaving behind pulp. You get mostly juice and it can take a whole lot of produce to make 32 ounces of juice. On the plus side, you’re getting a lot of nutrients in the juice. When I juice a simple recipe I may be juicing two handfuls of spinach, a big handful of kale, a cucumber, a beet, a few carrots, a little ginger and a whole apple. That juice packs a lot of nutrients and it’s really good for the body. You can pack more servings of fruits and veggies into a single serving of juice than you can into a smoothie. Juicing extracts the nutrients from the produce, breaks it down and makes it easier for the body to digest. It’s great for cleansing!

Juicing vs. Blending: On the downside juicing costs a little more because we have to use so much food and the pulp (fiber) is usually going to waste. (It goes to my garden, so it’s really not wasted.) It takes a little longer than blending too.

Blending/Extracting

When blending, the blender or in my case the NutriBullet, pulverizes the produce to make it into a smoothie. (NutriBullet claims it is an extractor, so not necessarily a blender. See below.) We’re getting the pulp as well as the juice. It is breaking down the food making it is easier for our bodies to digest. I don’t get the quantity of nutrients as with juicing, but I get the fiber and that is a good thing, especially when blending fruits. Fruits contain sugar and if you juice only fruits it can raise your blood sugar level. That’s not a good thing.

Juicing vs. Blending: If we’re just talking about fruit, blending fruit is better in my opinion because the fiber is still there and the sugar doesn’t enter the bloodstream so quickly as with juicing. Fiber is filling and we stay full longer too.

Here’s a paragraph from the NutriBullet website: “Nutrient Extraction is the mechanism the NutriBullet uses to break down fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and other plant foods down to their most absorbable state. Unlike juicers and blenders, NutriBullet nutrient extractors break down the cell walls of fibrous plant foods, releasing important vitamins and minerals contained within. At the same time, they reduce beneficial fiber, pulp, seeds, and skins into a smooth-as-silk texture, delivering food to your body in an easily digestible, easily absorbable form. More than juicing, more than blending, and more than chewing, nutrient extraction allows you to receive the highest degree of nutrition your food has to offer.”

Read more at https://www.nutribullet.com/

Juicing vs. Blending Which is Better?

In all honesty, I don’t know. It’s up to the individual. Both are great and I don’t think one is better than the other. However, if you want to cleanse your body, juicing is the way to go.

Juicing and blending are both great ways to include a lot of produce in our diet, and also to consume a greater variety than we may otherwise eat.

I am determined to continue to do both. The next few months I’m going to concentrate on blending and making smoothies. I’ll post some great recipes and review some books and my NutriBullet. This is a way for me to keep my website fresh and get new information out to my readers.

Thanks again for visiting, happy juicing and stay smooth!

Omaca-3 Pear, Spinach, Maca Smoothie Recipe

omaca-3 nutribulletI really have been enjoying my NutriBullet Pro and Virginia has been too. If you’re following you know I picked one up before Christmas in a department store. A passerby said it was great and she also said she used it every day and loves it. So we bought one.

Virginia and I have been using the NutriBullet Pro in place of juicing. This adds a fresh new dimension to our juicing/blending lifestyle and I have to say I am impressed. It’s easy to do, there are a lot of delicious simple recipes and cleanup is a breeze.

The Omaca-3 gets it’s name from maca root powder. High in energy! Maca is rich in vitamin B vitamins, C, and E. It provides plenty of calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids. Maca is widely used to promote sexual function of both men and women. It serves as a boost to your libido and increases endurance. At the same time it balances your hormones and increases fertility. So enjoy, I mean really enjoy, the Omaca-3!

The Omaca-3 recipe comes from the NutriBullet Pro  booklet. The booklet is found inside the box with the NutriBullet Pro. It claims to have “Life Changing Recipes”, like the Omaca-3, so we shall see.

So here’s a great recipe for you to try !

Apple Pear Fruit Juice Recipe

Do you like sweet apples mixed with delicious pears? If so, then this Apple Pear Fruit Juice is the recipe for you.

apple pear fruit juiceFresh Fruit: Apple Pear Fruit Juice Recipe

This is another wonderful recipe from  The Juicing Bible with a slight alteration. Even though the recipe doesn’t specify what type of apple and pear to use, I used braeburn apples and red pears. I also left out the ginger root and I list it below as optional.

I have nothing against ginger root. It has many positive nutritional benefits, but I just don’t care for it in some recipes. My taste may change as time goes on. It certainly has over the years and I may start using ginger root more often in fruit juice recipes.

This is a pleasant morning fruit juice and fruit juice is excellent for cleansing, but it does have more sugar than green drinks. I’m careful not to drink too much pure fruit juice and I’ve found that diluting it with purified water or sparkling water is a good choice. The recipe below makes more than enough for 2 people, especially if you dilute it.

Serves 2 people

  • 2 apples (braeburn)

  • 2 pears (red)

  • 1/2 inch piece of ginger root (optional)

  • 1/2 cup grapes (red)

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

UPDATE: Apple Pear Fruit Juice Recipe: Try the ginger root. It is fantastic! I use just a small piece to livin this recipe up and ginger root has so many wonderful benefits. For one, it reduces pain and inflammation, making it valuable in managing arthritis, headaches, and menstrual cramps.- 7 Health Benefits of Ginger

Apple Cinnamon Smoothie Recipe

apple cinnamon smoothieHere’s the Apple Cinnamon Smoothie! As I promised I will be reviewing a few recipes from the Metabolic Cooking program. This is a fantastic healthy program for people looking to eat healthier, lose weight or just enjoy some new nutritious, fat burning recipes.

The Apple Cinnamon Smoothie is from the Breakfast and Post-Workout Smoothie section. This is a wonderful and delicious healthy smoothie that can even replace a meal. The cinnamon really makes this smoothie delicious. I have used this recipe and similar one’s when I’m in a hurry.

These smoothie recipes call for a protein powder and as I mentioned before there are a few things to look out for. Go back to Metabolic Cooking Smoothies and have a look. Basically, look for a protein supplement with all natural ingredients and no artificial colors or sweeteners.

I’m using Organic Soy Powder from Swansons. It’s a healthy powder and tastes great in smoothies.  This product was featured in Prevention’s 6 Healthiest Protein Powders for Your Smoothie. 100% Certified Organic Whole Soybean Powder has 10 grams of easy-digesting protein per serving. Plus, it has all the healthful components of the soybean. This nutritional powder truly delivers!

Apple Cinnamon Smoothie

  • 2 scoops of protein powder

  • unsweetened vanilla almond milk (enough for smoothie cup)

  • 1 Granny Smith apple (cored, sliced. I could only use 1/2 the apple in my Nutribullet cup)

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • stevia to taste

  • 5 ice cubes

apple cinnamon smoothie 2Put all ingredients in a blender and enjoy. this smoothie is perfect for breakfast or post-exercise because of it’s higher carbohydrate content.

I’m using my Nutribullet Pro and just love it!

Juice Fast And Protein | Will I Get Enough Protein?

How Do I Get Protein During My Juice Fast?

I hear that question often, and many people say to me they need to get their protein. I imagine the majority of people don’t know how they can possibly supply their body with enough protein while consuming only FRESH fruit & vegetable JUICE. There are many excellent raw sources of protein. See below.
protein

Not getting enough protein while juice fasting is a legitimate concern. Getting enough of any food source is important and protein is something our bodies require to thrive. Fret not people, raw, plant-based protein absolutely provides a person with more than enough protein to nourish the body. Ask any true Vegan!

Juicing

When juicing regularly or juice fasting you’re not starving your body. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Your body is getting more nutrition that it’s probably ever received. Juicing breaks down the cells and concentrates the nutrients allowing your body to absorb more. You wouldn’t be able to eat even half of the raw fruits and vegetables you’ll be consuming on a juice fast. It’s just too much to chew and swallow.

Here’s a list of several raw sources of protein you can juice: Asparagus, Beet Greens, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collard Greens, Kale, Mustard Greens, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Sprouts, Tomatoes and Turnip Greens. (Source)

Protein Levels

From LIVESTRONG.COM:

Blood protein levels remain constant throughout a prolonged juice diet. Proteins are synthesized from decomposed cells, notes Germany’s “fasting therapist”, Dr. Otto Buchinger, who founded several European health clinics. New cell growth is enhanced during a juice diet, as the body shifts protein and other stored nutrients to where they are needed. After a few days of consuming only liquids, your body will “autolyze,” or self-digest, cells and tissues which are diseased, damaged, aging or dead. The process has been called “a burning of rubbish” by Buchinger in his book, “Fasting: the Buchinger Method.”

Using a juice extractor unlocks essential nutrients in the fibers of fruits and vegetables, notes Ron Lagerquist, author of “Fasting to Freedom” and “Whole Foods & Healing Recipes.” Lagerquist maintains that a juice diet provides better rejuvenation than fasting on water, which often causes an unpleasant toxic crisis.

I do not promote long term juice fasts of 30 days or more. 5 to 7 days is sufficient for me. Ask your doctor if adding fresh juice to your diet would be appropriate for you.

Orange Morning | Grapefruit, Carrot and Ginger Juice Recipe

Wow! I never would have thought to mix carrots with grapefruit, but Orange Morning does it! I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this fruit juice is. The combination of grapefruit, carrots and ginger is perfect. The grapefruit isn’t near as strong with the carrot and ginger added in. Honestly I could barely taste the carrots and there’s just the slightest hint of ginger. This is one time where I can actually add the suggested amount of ginger in a juice and not be overwhelmed by it.

“Another great morning staple but one where the sharp, awakening grapefruit tang is tempered by the sweet, rich carrot” – Orange Morning from The Big Book of Juices

In my opinion, one of the best grapefruit juice recipes out there and pretty low in calories. Only 152 calories according to Juice Recipe Builder | Juice Recipes, and that’s if you drink the entire 20 ounces.

Makes 20 ounces

  • 2 grapefruits

  • 3 carrots

  • 1/2 inch ginger root

“A glass of chilled grapefruit juice, especially in winter, helps seriously boost your levels of vitamin C, which gives grapefruits a high place amongst various citrus fruits. It’s packed with the benefits derived from various nutrients and vitamins, including potassium and lycopene.” – Organicfacts.net

Note: If you’re taking medication consult your health care professional. It’s been known for some time that grapefruit juice can interact badly with some medications.

Bright Orange | Orange and Carrot Juice Recipe

This is another juice recipe that comes from  The Big Book of Juices. I like making the Bright Orange juice recipe in the morning. I love it! I just naturally love to have an orange juice in the morning and the addition of a few carrots smooths out the flavor for me. How about adding a small piece of fresh ginger to it? Anyway, here’s a recipe you’re sure to love.

I love how the addition of carrots to this drink really makes a beautiful orange color. The carrots do the same in another recipe I make with grapefruit. This is a nice, not to sweet, fresh, nutritious juice and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Makes 16 ounces

  • 2 oranges

  • 4 carrots

Why are carrots good for you? “The health benefits of carrots include reduced cholesterol, prevention from heart attacks, warding off of certain cancers, improving vision, and reducing the signs of premature aging. Furthermore, carrots have the ability to increase the health of your skin, boost the immune system, improve digestion, increase cardiovascular health, detoxify the body, and boost oral health in a variety of ways. They also provide a well-rounded influx of vitamins and minerals.” – Organic Facts

Quick and Dirty Flu Fighter | Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Apple and Ginger Fruit Juice

It doesn’t have to be the flu season to enjoy the Quick and Dirty Flu Fighter fresh fruit juice. This recipe comes from one of my favorite juicing books, The Healthy Juicer’s Bible by Farnoosh Brock. This is an excellent book for both the beginner and experienced juicer.

This is a delicious morning fruit juice and as I made it, I just knew it would be a favorite of mine. I love oranges and grapefruit. I added a few ice cubes and sparkling water to mine. Try this recipe and let me know what you think.

  • 2 small-medium oranges, peeled

  • 1 small grapefruit, peeled

Oranges have a lot of sugar in the juice and grapefruit juice doesn’t mix with some medications. It only takes a phone call to check.

Juice Fast - 48 Hour Juice Cleanse Afternoon/Evening Day 1

juice cleanse recipes juicingforlife

BUY HERE

After a morning of fasting and having plenty of water, I decided to go out for a jog. I feel good and lighter already. This juice fast is going by quickly.

I don’t want to forget to mention it’s important to drink plenty of purified water when you’re on a juice fast and it’s also okay to have herbal tea. I had some in the morning and it sure tastes great.

Juice Fast – Lunch

For lunch I’ll be juicing parsley, carrots, garlic and celery. I don’t remember the last time I juiced garlic, but it sounds like it’ll be interesting to say the least. Here’s what I made and I made a double batch which yielded about 20 ounces:

2:30 PM, running a little late for lunch 😡  – Spring Tonic – Handful of parsley, 4 carrots (greens removed), 1 garlic clove, 2 stalks celery. Bunch up parsley and push through juicer with carrots, garlic and celery.

The Spring Tonic is another recipe that’s good for relieving constipation.

Juice Fast – Dinner

For dinner and a snack later I’ll juice and have the Evening Regulator and Waldorf Salad. You can see these and other suggested recipes in one of my past articles, 48 Hour Juice Cleanse Recipes. In addition before retiring to bed, I’ll have some chamomile tea.

It’s been a wonderful day and I feel great. Juices offer great quantities of nutrients and a juice fast is a powerful healing tool. I can’t wait for dinner!

6:00 PM and 8:00 PM – Evening Regulator – 2 apples, 1 pear. Alternate pushing apple and pear slices through juicer. Good for constipation. Makes approx. 16 ounces. – Waldorf Salad – 1 green apple, 1 stalk celery. Push apple and celery through juicer. I doubled this recipe to make 16 ounces. Good for migraine headache.
