Orange Morning | Grapefruit, Carrot and Ginger Juice Recipe

Wow! I never would have thought to mix carrots with grapefruit, but Orange Morning does it! I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this fruit juice is. The combination of grapefruit, carrots and ginger is perfect. The grapefruit isn’t near as strong with the carrot and ginger added in. Honestly I could barely taste the carrots and there’s just the slightest hint of ginger. This is one time where I can actually add the suggested amount of ginger in a juice and not be overwhelmed by it.

“Another great morning staple but one where the sharp, awakening grapefruit tang is tempered by the sweet, rich carrot” – Orange Morning from The Big Book of Juices

In my opinion, one of the best grapefruit juice recipes out there and pretty low in calories. Only 152 calories according to Juice Recipe Builder | Juice Recipes, and that’s if you drink the entire 20 ounces.

  • 2 grapefruits

  • 3 carrots

  • 1/2 inch ginger root

It doesn’t have to be the flu season to enjoy the Quick and Dirty Flu Fighter fresh fruit juice. This recipe comes from one of my favorite juicing books, The Healthy Juicer’s Bible by Farnoosh Brock. This is an excellent book for both the beginner and experienced juicer.

Beet - Cucumber Cleansing Juice Recipe with Carrots, Cucumber, Beets and Celery

I was a little hesitant to make the Beet – Cucumber Cleansing Juice just because it had so many ingredients, but really it’s not to difficult to make.  There are 7 ingredients, but ginger and lemon are so easy to add to a juice it doesn’t make sense for me not to try it at least once. I’m so happy I did.

This is a delicious blend. I could taste every ingredient, but none of them were overpowering. I’ll be making the Beet – Cucumber Cleansing Juice again.

Why is this a cleansing juice? For one, beets. Beets are good for the kidney, liver and bladder. Beetroot juice is also believed to be a blood purifier and is good for intestinal cleanses.

Be careful about the leaves though. The leaves are high in oxalate and people on a low oxalate diet should avoid consuming too much of the beetroot stems and leaves.beet - cucumber cleansing juice

Beet – Cucumber Cleansing Juice

The Beet – Cucumber Cleansing Juice Recipe comes from  – Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life: Unleash the Healing Power of Fresh Juices and Cleansing Diets In the book it’s called Beet – Cucumber Cleansing Cocktail and is on page 290. I changed the name slightly.

Makes 20+ ounces with a large cucumber

  •  1 cucumber, peeled

  • 3 carrots, scrubber well, tops removed, ends trimmed

  • 1 beet, scrubbed well, with stem and 1 or 2 leaves

  • 2 stalks celery

  • 1 handful parsley

  • 1 or 2 inch chunk ginger root scrubbed, or peeled if old (I used 1 inch)

  • 1/2 lemon, peeled

beet - cucumber cleansing juice

Researchers claims that compounds found in beets detoxify the liver and have the ability to cure diseases of the digestive system.

The benefits of juicing beets includes that it encourages liver cleansing, improves liver functioning and protects the liver from excessive alcohol consumption.

There are also indications that the benefits of beet juice includes the ability to cure kidney and liver diseases. – Juicing Benefits Toolbox

Sweet Pear Sensation | Pear, Apple, Celery, Lemon and Ginger Juice

Wow! Here’s  a great recipe for you. The Sweet Pear Sensation  comes from The Healthy Juicer’s Bible written by Farnoosh Brock.

I love pear in my juices and this one incorporates pear nicely with apple, lemon, celery and ginger. There’s just a hint of celery flavor and ginger in this one. I use very small amounts of ginger in my recipes because I think the Omega J8004 really squeezes out the ginger remarkably well. Too much ginger can ruin a juice for me.

I hope you enjoy this very delightful juice. Try some sparkling water with this, you might be surprised.

Sweet Pear SensationSweet Pear Sensation

Makes 20 ounces

  • 2 small pears, any kind

  • 1 medium sweet apple ( I used Red Delicious)

  • 2-4 celery stalks ( I used 3)

  • 1/2 lemon ( I peel mine)

  • A small chunk of ginger

Update: The Health Benefits of Pears

  1. Blood pressure: Pears have anti-oxidant and anti-carcinogen glutathione which help prevent high blood pressure and stroke.

  2. Cancer prevention: The high vitamin C and copper content act as good anti-oxidants that protect cells from damages by free radicals.

  3. Cholesterol: The high content of pectin in pears make it very useful in helping to lower cholesterol levels.

Colon health: When not juicing, eat the pear whole for its precious fiber that are highly beneficial for your colon health.

  4. Constipation: The pectin in pears is diuretic and have a mild laxative effect. Drinking pear juice regularly helps regulate bowel movements.

  5. Energy: You can get quick and natural source of energy from pear juice, due largely to its high amounts of fructose and glucose.

  6. Fever: The cooling effect in pear is excellent in relieving fever. Best way to bring a fever down quickly is by drinking a big glass of pear juice.

Emerald Deluxe | Spinach,Celery,Cucumber Juice Recipe

The Emerald Deluxe also comes from  The Healthy Juicer’s Bible written by Farnoosh Brock. This is another recipe I made before going on vacation, hoping to get the post done before taking off, but to no avail. It has a wonderful, deep, green (emerald) color. I love  dark, emerald-green juices. When I drink them I can just feel the good, powerful nutrients entering my blood stream. Sounds crazy huh? Just try this recipe and use your imagination.

Emerald DeluxeA full flavored drink: The Emerald Deluxe

I can just taste the ginger and cucumber. Absolutely a beautiful color and you can certainly tell how it got its name.

I use my Omega J8004 juicer and get plenty of fantastic, healthy juice from this recipe.

Makes 24 ounces

  • 2-3 cups of baby or regular spinach

  • 3-4 stalks of celery

  • 3-4 small Persian cucumbers (I used what was available)

  • 1 cup green or red grapes

  • 1 large Granny Smith apple

  • a small piece of ginger (careful, very strong stuff)

Emerald Deluxe

UPDATE: Spinach and other green vegetables contain chlorophyll which has shown to be effective at blocking the carcinogenic effects of heterocyclic amines which are generated when grilling foods at a high temperature. Spinach is high in vitamin A, which is necessary for sebum production to keep hair moisturized. Vitamin A is also necessary for the growth of all bodily tissues, including skin and hair. Spinach and other leafy greens high in vitamin C are imperative for the building and maintenance of collagen, which provides structure to skin and hair.

Juice Fast – 48 Hour Juice Cleanse Afternoon/Evening Day 2

I really like this new book. I think one the most interesting things I’ve found in this book, Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing, is that during a juice fast Cherie Calbom presents a few unusual ideas. Not really unusual in my mind, but probably to a lot of those hard core juicers out there.

1. Cherie says, it’s okay to dilute any or all of these juices. I’ve always said that I think it’s a good idea to dilute fruit juice. I don’t do it all of the time, it just depends on how I feel. Sometimes I even dilute my vegetable juice if it’s thick or too strong.

2. Cherie also says vegetable broths can be drunk as well in the juice fast. She uses fresh vegetables and simmers them in hot water, removing the vegetables later and adding some seasoning. Great idea!

3. If you’re just too hungry and feel that it can’t go on any longer, Cherie says, don’t hesitate to modify the fast by adding fresh raw vegetables. Another wonderful idea.

It makes sense to me that if you don’t think you can stand it any longer (maybe you’ve gone 12 hours) to eat a few fresh vegetables to get you by instead of breaking the fast. This isn’t a competition and the more of these juice fasts you complete the easier it gets.

4. Another thing that I agree with her on is the duration of a juice fast. If you’re going it alone, don’t go for more than 5 days. It’s just good sense in my mind. Why overdo it by trying to go 30 days? Like I said, this isn’t a competition and if you’re in it to lose weight, there’s a better way than juice fasting for 30 days. Try this book for one!

We’re talking about a lifetime here. Changing old habits and juicing for life!

Juice Fast – Lunch Day 2

Noon- Spicy Cantaloupe Shake – 1/4 inch slice ginger root, 1/2 cantaloupe. Makes 12 ounces. Push ginger through juicer with cantaloupe. You can juice the cantaloupe with or without the rind. the rind is very nutritional. When juicing cantaloupe with the rind, thinly cut the very outer netted skin off. It should be orange, but with a slightly green tint. Delicious! This one is spicy too  😆

Mid Afternoon – Ginger Ale – 1 lemon wedge, 1/4 inch slice ginger root, 1 medium bunch green grapes, Sparkling water. Juice lemon. Push ginger through juicer with grapes. Pour juice into ice filled glass. Fill glass to top with sparkling water. Makes 16 ounces.

Later on I’ll have some more chamomile tea. Don’t forget, drink plenty of purified water when fasting. It’s great to stay hydrated and flush those bad toxins out.

This has been an exciting juice fast, 48 hour cleanse for me. I’ve learned more by reading the book Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing and I plan on using it’s suggestions for diet. The authors of this book, Cherie Calbom and Maureen Keane really know their stuff. Pick up a copy on Amazon, you’ll be glad you did.

Words of caution: Diabetics should seek a doctors approval before trying a juice fast. You can fast from 1 to 5 days anytime you like, but if you fast for longer than 5 days, I recommend you seek a heath care professionals supervision.

Watch for my next article on the 48 hour juice cleanse results.

Thanks for visiting Prime Juicers and remember, “There’s no-thing better for your body than fresh fruit and vegetable juice!”

Quick and Dirty Flu Fighter | Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Apple and Ginger Fruit Juice

  • 2 small-medium oranges, peeled

  • 1 small grapefruit, peeled

  • 1/2 lemon (I peel mine)

Please remember, if you’re diabetic, have a serious medical condition or take medication please check with your healthcare professional. Oranges have a lot of sugar in the juice and grapefruit juice doesn’t mix with some medications. It only takes a phone call to check.
