Cantaloupe and Pineapple | Simple Recipes

Cantaloupe and Pineapple??? I didn’t think cantaloupe and pineapple would go together well, but I discovered this sweet surprise one morning while juicing leftovers. Cantaloupe and pineapple do go together well! It’s delicious and refreshing especially served over ice.

We have been getting some good cantaloupe and pineapple here in South Dakota lately and I’m finding it easy to juice them. Lately I’ve just been peeling the outer skin (netting) off cantaloupe with my OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler. This seems to work very well and with some of the greenish skin still on the cantaloupe it goes through my Omega J8004 Juicer really nice. It doesn’t over power the juice either.

With the pineapple, lately I’ve just been washing them and juicing with the skin. This adds some bulk and helps it go through the juicer. If I push pineapple through the juicer too fast it clogs it up. However, with this recipe I had about 1/2 of fresh pineapple cut into pieces and I juiced it that way. No skin! Alternating between the cantaloupe and pineapple worked good. The pineapple didn’t get backed up into the juicing chamber.

Cantaloupe and Pineapple

Makes 10 ounces – Very good served over ice.
  • 1/2 cantaloupe (outer skin peeled)

  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple

Alternate pushing cantaloupe and pineapple slowly through the juicer to avoid clogging.

Benefits of Cantaloupe and Pineapple

Cantaloupes are packed with beta-carotene, vitamins A, B6, B1, B3,  and C.

Bromelain in Pineapple is a natural antioxidant and an effective anti-inflammatory. Pineapple is also full of vitamin C.

Combine these together and you have a fabulous nutritional juice.

Limber Joint Libation - Cherry, Pineapple Smoothie

limber joint libationHere’s one I’ve been working with trying to get it acceptable to me. Don’t know if I’ve got there yet. It’s the Limber Joint Libation smoothie recipe.

I’ve made this a couple of times. Virginia says it’s okay, but I’m going to try and improve it. It doesn’t taste sweet enough, but maybe it’s not supposed to. I’m going to try just a little more pineapple next time.

This is an excellent recipe for inflammation though. Turmeric works on my joints, no doubt! I take turmeric daily in capsule form and it has reduced my inflammation considerably. I can’t say enough good things about turmeric.

Cherries reduce inflammation: Cherries and cherry juice have been used since the 1950s by sufferers of gout and arthritis to ease their symptoms. Gout results from an overload of uric acid in the blood (hyperuricemia), which accumulates and forms crystals in the joints, causing painful arthritis; cherry consumption has been shown to reduce circulating levels of uric acid, which may be one pathway by which cherries improve gout symptoms. – Dr. Fuhrman

This comes from the booklet I received with my NutriBullet, it’s on page 83.

Arthritis pain is often caused by inflammation in joints, which may be soothed by natural healing foods. Cherries, parsley and turmeric are widely celebrated for their inflammation fighting powers, so try this recipe if you suffer from the pains of arthritis and get your joints jumping once more! – NutriBullet

Inflammation Tamer - Blueberry, Pineapple Smoothie

I made the Inflammation Tamer smoothie recipe last night for Virginia and I. We probably didn’t need the maca so late in the evening, but we decided to give it a try anyway.

inflammation tamer ingredinatsInflammation Tamer is a delicious recipe made with two of my favorite fruit, pineapple and blueberries. They go together so well and are so good for the body.

This recipe comes from the booklet “NutriBullet Life Changing Recipes” which is included with the Nutribullet Pro.

One of the roughest symptoms of fibromyalgia is chronic inflammation in the body, a condition that can lead to a host of other health problems. This blast contains a wide variety of anti-inflammatory compounds to soothe your system.

Inflammation Tamer

  • 2 big handfuls of spinach (fill the Talll Cup halfway)

  • 1/2 cup blueberries

  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks

  • 1 tsp maca root powder

  • water to the max line

inflammation tamer smoothieAdd all ingredients to the Tall Cup and extract until smooth, about 40 seconds.

My review: The Inflammation Tamer is a delicious smoothie however it is a little too diluted for my taste. I will try just a little less water next time and maybe some more pineapple. However, Virginia liked it just the way it was. She also likes her juices a little diluted too. So you be the judge.

How do you like this recipe? Too diluted? Please comment below.

Thanks again for reading, best wishes, happy juicing and stay smooth!

ABC"s Of Juicing Wheatgrass: Benefits Of Wheatgrass

First let me say there are a lot of websites out there with an abundance of information on the benefits of juicing wheatgrass. A lot of them are only claims. That said, let me assure you of this fact: There are many good things that come from juicing wheatgrass and at the end of this article you’ll find some excellent resources.

juicing wheatgrassThe Benefits Of Wheatgrass Juice

What’s more nutritious than juicing wheatgrass? Not much! Wheatgrass juice is one of the most potently healthy drinks you can put in your body. It has been dubbed “a complete food” by health practitioners for its seemingly limitless health benefits.

It’s packed with over 90 minerals, including high concentrations of potassium, calcium, sodium, chlorophyll, and magnesium. Wheatgrass is also one of the best plant sources for protein, even better than soy and legumes.

There are 19 amino acids in wheatgrass and amazingly, it contains twice the vitamin A as carrots, vitamin B12  and more Vitamin C than oranges( ABC’s, get it?). I’ve seen it stated in many ways, but a shot of fresh wheatgrass juice contains the nutritional equivalent of 1 kg of leafy green vegetables! How great is that!

There are many claims that wheatgrass juice is a powerful detoxifier, and liver and blood protector. It’s said that it detoxifies the liver and bloodstream, and chemically neutralizes environmental pollutants.

According to one website, wheatgrass juice  “helps to fight tumors and it also neutralizes toxins. Recent studies show that wheatgrass has a powerful ability to fight tumors without the usual toxicity of drugs that also inhibit cell-destroying agents. The many active compounds found in wheatgrass juice cleanse the blood and neutralize and digest toxins in our cells.”  Whoa! That’s Awesome! I want some of that!

I’ve experimented with juicing wheatgrass and can tell you from my experience  it certainly gives me a boost of energy when I drink it.  Since I know it’s packed with nutrients, I know it’s good for my body. All things in moderation though. I’ll post more on juicing wheatgrass in the weeks ahead.

What have you heard about the benefits of juicing wheatgrass? Have you tried it or are you afraid to try it? Thanks for reading and happy juicing!

A Natural Energy Drink

PRIME Juicers Store
If you're like me you get up in the morning and want something to drink. I used to run to the coffee maker, but these days (being more health conscious) I get into the kitchen and make a morning juice. It's easy! It's actually easier for me to make juice and clean up quickly than it is to cook a breakfast. And juicing is nutritionally much better for you. Here's a quick natural energy drink to get you going in the morning.

Ingredients:
1 lemon (mostly peeled)
1 orange (mostly peeled)
1 pineapple spear
3 watermelon wedges (minus rind)

This is a great starter drink and don't forget to drink plenty of water. Water is essential, but this drink is easy to make and delicious to drink. Have fun and juice on!
